Zürich - recommended hotels by Mark Sukhija

As a former resident of Zürich , I didn't use to many of the Zürich during my time there - but have used the following hotels over recent years.

  1. Dolder Waldhaus (Kurhausstrasse 20, 8032 Zurich) - The Dolder Waldhaus is the little brother of The Dolder Grand one stop further up on the Dolder Bahn furnicular. Perched on the Züriberg hillside, many rooms boast views over Zürich city and Lake Zürich itself. While the breakfast spread isn't as broad as at the Hotel Continental it is decent. Rooms are comfortable, bathrooms good, views excellent, service faultless. Novel access through a dedicated furnicular railway.

  2. Schweizerhof Zürich (Bahnhofplatz 7, 8021 Zurich) - Location wise, the Schweizerhof Zürich is perfect. It's directly opposite the Zürich Hauptbahnhof and on Bahnhofstrasse which is fantastic if your into shopping. St Peters Church , Fraumünster and Grossmünster are all within walking distance. Bathrooms excellent. Service superb.

  3. Hotel Adler (Rosengasse 10, 8001 Zürich) Slap bang in the middle of the Niederdorf district of Zürich , the Hotel Adler is very well located for the visitor to Zürich as it's close to all the main places of interest - Grossmünster being a matter of minutes away - and a good variety of places to eat and drink. Rooms are sizeble, comfortable and well maintained. Decent breakfast spread as well.

  4. Hotel Limmathof (Limmatquai 142, CH-8001 Zurich) - Rooms good size and clean. Very close to the restaurants and nightlife of the Niederdorf. Under five minutes walk from the Zürich Hauptbahnhof Also a lot cheaper than the Hotel Central Plaza directly opposite. Basically very good value. Basically, Hotel Limmathof is very good value.

  5. Hotel Rössli (Rössligasse 7, 8001 Zürich) Centrally located in Zürich , the Hotel Rössli is walking distance from Grossmünster and Fraumünster . The suite (pictured) is an excellent size and up the roof of the building. Excellent location for the nightlife of the Niederdorf Limited but decent breakfast spread.

  6. Hotel Continental (Stampfenbachstrasse 60, 8006 Zürich) - Excellently located Zürich hotel. Minutes walk or tram ride from Zürich main train station. Excellent breakfast spread and very hospitable, welcoming staff. Rooms are comfortable and bathrooms a good size. Nothing to fault really.
