Once upon a time, the Soviet Union built the Berlin Wall which cut the Brandenburg Gate off from West Berlin. Then they built the Baby Wall - which cut the Brandenburg Gate off from East Berlin. And the Gate just stood there, inaccessible to all.
Now, after the Eastern European Revolutions of 1989, the
Berlin Wall has come down and the Brandenburg Gate, one time
symbol of the Cold War, can be visited by all
Berliners
and
visitors alike. Naturally enough, there are a set of troops actors
posing in front of the Gate for photos - and some loose change.
