A short trip from Basel , Liestal holds the Chienbäse event takes places every year in Feburary - on the night before Morgenstreich in Basel itself. The Chienbäse (torches) are variously carried or, as in this case, piled into a bonfire and wheeled through the old town. Of course, it's all done under strict supervision of the Fire Department who make sure nothing gets out of hand and keeps those pesky Health and Safety boffins from spoiling a special event.
