Without a doubt, the Lanterns are one of the highlights of Basler Fasnacht. And their being on display in front of the Basler Münster is one of the highlights of the various set-piece events. It's a great oppurtunity to get close to the lanterns and consider the newsworthy events from the last year being lampooned. Many of the lanterns bear writing the local-Basler German dialect so, unless your from Basel itself, you're unlikely to understand whats written - but much is said by the pictures themselves.
