On several trips through Germany and Bavaria I've often noticed the roadside icons often depicting Jesus on the Cross or the Virgin Mary. On a recent trip to Munich with a friend, we came across this grotto near the village of Glonn in a secluded spot on a hillside path leading down to the path.
Like many Bavarian icons and statues, it's not clear to me why there should be a depiction of the Virgin at this spot - but there she is!
